Adrienne
Lumpkin of Alternate Access is the owner of a company
that provides easy to use, easy to integrate, e-business
solutions for companies large and small that value
the telephone as a communication lifeline to their
customers.
Her
company specializes in application development,
text-to-speech and fax servers, with customers in
the banking, real estate, construction, staffing,
distribution, and other businesses.
Adrienne
gives back through heavy involvement in the schools
at the elementary, middle school, and college levels
through business advisory boards, Junior Achievement,
and as a parent volunteer. She is also a leader
in the National Black MBA Asscociation (NBMBAA)
She
says owning a business is much like raising a child.
It doesn't get easier, the issues just change. She
credits her parents, a retired police officer and
a retired school teacher, as her best role models.
"The grounding they have given me is the greatest
gift of all."
Sandra
Abalos of Abalos & Associates, P.C., has been the
owner of a full service CPA firm for over 20 years.
But what really sets Sandra apart is the role she
plays as an advocate for small business.
As
the SBA's National Accountant Advocate of the Year,
Sandy has used her position as a forum to champion
tax-related issues that are supportive of small
business. And as a member of the Phoenix chapter
of NAWBO, Sandy takes pride in her involvement with
Camp CEO, which helps young women learn how to become
entrepreneurs.
Abalos
& Associates has launched a new service known as
"life planning." It is designed to help clients
prepare themselves for the various stages and situations
they will encounter throughout their lifetime.
"With
most businesses," Sandra says, "success or failure
is often determined on the drawing board. Everyone
starts out optimistic about running a company, but
sometimes people don't consider everything that
is involved. You must be realistic and formulate
a strong business plan. Find trusted advisors and
mentors, and use your resources wisely and sparingly."
