Resources for Women Golfers

Loews Ventana Canyon Resort is a luxury resort of incredible natural beauty situated on 93 acres in the foothills of Tucson's Catalina Mountains. A four-star, four-diamond resort with two golf courses (the Canyon Course and the Mountain Course), Loews recently introduced a girlfriend golf getaway that includes rental clubs, a one-hour lesson, and nine holes of golf, plus champagne and chocolates upon check-in, an in-room "chick flick," and dinner at the resort's Flying V Bar & Grill. Another option is a combination 90-minute lesson with four holes of golf; this non-threatening intro to golf is semi-private and includes fairway, tee and short game instruction, plus tips on golf etiquette and general protocol. For really determined new golfers, the resort recommends a lesson a day during your stay. For more information, visit www.loewshotels.com or call 520-299-2020. Reservations may be placed toll-free by calling 800-234-5117.

Tucson offers a wealth of other golfing options. The area has more than 300 days of sunshine each year and an average winter temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit, so it's one of this country's most perfect venues for golf. For general information on playing golf in Tucson, contact the Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau toll-free at 800-638-8350 or visit the Bureau's Web site at www.visitTucson.org. Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa is located in the appealing mountains of Farmington, PA, south of Pittsburgh. Owned by Maggie Hardy Magerko and her father, Joseph A. Hardy, Sr., Nemacolin has a full-service spa and fitness center. It also offers the John Daly Learning Center with golf lessons, clinics, and a player development program, plus two golf courses - the Links and Mystic Rock. The resort is convenient to many East Coast and Midwest cities by car, and golf is certainly a central focus, with spa services running a close second. Nemacolin currently offers 295 accommodations. The new Falling Rock Lodge, which is scheduled to open in August 2004, will add another 42 guest rooms and suites and will feature 24-hour butler service and an executive boardroom. One of the project architects studied under Frank Lloyd Wright, and two of Wright's well-known houses - Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob - are within driving distance of Nemacolin; the concierge can assist with tour information. For more information, contact Nemacolin toll-free at 800-422-2736 or visit www.nemacolin.com.

Executive Women's Golf Association (EWGA). Founded in 1991, EWGA is a not-for-profit organization that strives to provide opportunities for women to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf. Contact them at 561-691-0096 or visit www.ewga.com.
