Marsha
Firestone is the founder and president of the Women
Presidents' Organization (WPO), an organization
for women whose businesses annually gross over $2
million a year ($1 million a year for service businesses).
The WPO currently operates in 31 locations in the
United States and Canada. Members have average revenues
of $10.5 million.
Every
chapter of the Women Presidents' Organization serves
as a peer advisory group for the women business
owners who are members. As a result, each member
has the support she needs from her peers to help
her business exceed performance expectations. WPO
members consider the organization to be a lifeline-as
critical to their business success as a good business
plan and key employees. And any WPO member who has
had the opportunity to meet her considers Marsha
Firestone a trusted advisor and a personal friend.
Before
launching the WPO, Marsha was the vice president
of Women Incorporated, and of training and counseling
at the American Woman's Economic Development Corporation.
Prior
to her involvement in women's economic development,
she oversaw all operations and established educational
direction as president of a for-profit educational
institution.
Her
career also includes positions as national executive
director of the Women's American O.R.T., a volunteer
organization with a membership of over 150,000.
She has been a full time faculty member of the American
Management Association competency-based management
development program, and a faculty member of the
City University of New York and Adelphi University.
Marsha
is the author of The Busy Woman's Guide to Successful
Self-Employment, an interactive, easy to read
resource. She is a frequent guest speaker on women's
enterprise at events throughout the world, and was
a 2002 recipient of WBENC's Applause Award for breaking
down barriers for women in business.
Marsha
Firestone's committee and council appointments are
vast. Her impact on the growth of the women business
owners' community has been far reaching, and she
has personally touched the lives of countless women
entrepreneurs.
