Presenting Our Class of 2018

monica smileyIt is with a tremendous sense of pride that we present our Class of 2018—the 16th Annual Enterprising Women of the Year Award Winners and Champions, with an amazing class of honorees with businesses ranging in size from nearly a million in annual revenues to more than $2 billion in annual revenues.

It is also our honor to present two outstanding inductees into the Enterprising Women Hall of Fame, as well as two Legacy Award Winners, and our annual Advocacy Award Winner.

Each year we devote this special issue to introducing our readers to this impressive group of women entrepreneurs who are among the top business owners in the world. Each has demonstrated that she is at the helm of a financially solid and growing enterprise, is a leader in her community, and is giving back to mentor and support other girls and women along the way.

Mentoring has been at the core of our mission for Enterprising Women since we produced our first issue in May 2000. We feature one of our strong partners—the Million Women Mentor Program—in this issue, and I am proud to serve as a mentor this year as STEMconnector kicks off its impressive initiative to help women with STEM-based businesses achieve fast growth for their companies.

I am also proud to serve as a mentor in the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS program, lead by the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW). I have recently returned from Rwanda, where I reconnected with Rwandan women entrepreneurs I have had the privilege of mentoring in this program over the past decade and participated in a “Shark Tank” like program to select the top entrepreneurs to come to the U.S. this summer for further learning and mentorship.

We have learned that it is not enough to run a successful business—giving back (particularly through mentoring) is so important. All of the Enterprising Women of the Year honorees we feature in this issue are living this core value and giving back every day.

Enjoy this issue and congratulations again to our Class of 2018!
