Susan Phillips Bari

Susan Phillips Bari

Susan Phillips Bari is the president and founding architect of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the nation's leading third party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women.

Susan has shown her commitment to fostering diversity in the world of commerce by expanding opportunities and eliminating barriers in the marketplace for women's business enterprises.

WBENC has just completed another remarkable year in which several important new programs were launched, including the match-maker series that pairs corporate purchasing officials one-on-one with pre-screened business owners. She also launched an executive scholarship program that enables women business owners to have access to advanced management courses at America's top business schools. WBENC also serves as an advocate in our nation's capital on behalf of corporations and WBEs on procurement issues.

A maverick early on, Susan began her career as the first woman to be an independent manufacturer's rep in the textile industry. In 1986, while serving as an associate director of the Office of Presidential Personnel, she began her public policy career after being named chair of President Reagan's Interagency Committee on Women's Business Enterprise.

Susan served as founding executive director from 1990-1995 of the American Women's Economic Development Corporation Washington Regional Training Center, assisting more than 2,000 women with the start-up and growth of their companies. She went on to found WBENC in 1997.

Susan Bari's committee and council appointments at the national level are numerous. She has made and continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of women's business enterprises across this country.
