LAURA ALLEN is the founder of Vision Education &
Media, a New York City company she began seven years ago to
provide leading edge technology education. Vision Education
and Media assists schools and organizations such as the YMCA
and the Boys and Girls Club of America in local and national edtech
initiatives. Her company runs after-school technology programs
in robotics, digital video, computer graphics, writing, and
game making in a range of locations from the South Bronx to the
Upper East Side of Manhattan. Laura’s goal was to make technology
education accessible to middle and low income children.
With a particular interest in carving out a place for girls and
women in the largely male dominated technology field, Laura
created “Tech Girls” in conjunction with the Girls Club of
America. The program became a successful model of how to
attract girls to technology and give them the support they need
to feel a sense of ownership. |
